Privacy Policy for My Cat Companion
Effective date: August 31, 2026
Last updated: September 2, 2026
My Cat Companion ("the app," "we," "us," or "our") is published by Zaceos, a sole proprietorship owned by Zac Reichert, based in Washington State, USA. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we store and protect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to the practices described here.
If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at zac.r22@gmail.com. A dedicated support address (support@) is planned; until it is live, use the email above.
Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to everyone who uses My Cat Companion on iOS or Android. The app is intended for cat owners who are adults. It is not directed to children. See "Children's privacy" below.
What we collect and why
We collect only what we need to run the app, sync your data across your devices, provide our features, and manage your subscription. We do not sell your personal information, we do not show third-party advertising, and we do not use advertising or ad-tracking SDKs.
Account information. When you register, we collect your email address and a password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are stored in hashed form; we never see your plain-text password. You may optionally add a display name. We use this information to create and secure your account, to let you sign in across multiple devices, and to contact you about your account or important service changes.
Cat profiles and care records. The core of the app is a Wellbeing section where you record information about your cat. Depending on what you choose to enter, this can include your cat's name, breed, and age, along with records you create such as weights, medications, vitals, nutrition, grooming, vet visits, home exams, vaccinations, moods, a behavior log, vet notes, memories, training notes, insurance details, and microchip information. You decide what to enter. We store this so it is available to you across your devices and over time. This information is for your own record-keeping. It is not a medical record and the app is not a medical device. See our Disclaimer for more.
Usage and progress. We record your progress through educational lessons and courses, your quiz scores, your daily trivia activity and the streak it builds, and your daily goals, and a per-day count, for each AI feature separately, of how many times you have used it against that feature's daily allowance (this covers the photo scanners and the poison Ask AI lookup), so the app can show your history, continue where you left off, and enforce those allowances.
Error diagnostics. If the app hits an error on your device while you are signed in, it automatically sends us a short diagnostic report. The report includes a label for where the error happened, the error message text, the in-app screen you were using at the time (for example the lost-cat tools or wellbeing records), and a timestamp. This report is linked to your account. The error message is generated automatically and is not meant to capture your content, but because it describes what the app was doing when it failed, it can occasionally include a fragment of the content you were working with. We send at most a handful of these reports each time you open the app, and we use them only to find and fix bugs; we do not use them for advertising, analytics, or profiling, and we do not share them with anyone outside Zaceos. The report goes directly into a secure system that only we can read; you cannot view, edit, or retrieve it yourself. It is permanently deleted when you delete your account.
AI content reports. If an AI feature gives you a response that is offensive, harmful, or wrong, you can report it from a link shown beside that response. Reporting is entirely optional; nothing is sent unless you choose to file one. A report contains four things: which AI feature it came from, a reason category you pick from a short list, an optional note you write yourself, and a short text excerpt of the AI's own answer. It does not include the photo you scanned. Before the excerpt is saved we remove the parts of an AI result that can carry personal details rather than information about your cat, including any transcription of a document, the narrative summary and stated reason for a vet visit, and the clinic's name. Reports are linked to your account so we can investigate them, are visible only to you and to us, and cannot be edited or deleted from within the app once filed. They are deleted along with everything else when you delete your account.
Sitter Mode. If you prepare a handover for a cat sitter, we store the notes you write for them: feeding, litter, medications, daily routine, toys, hiding spots, and stress signals. Sitter Mode also shows and lets you edit your cat's vet details: clinic name, veterinarian's name, phone number, and address. Vet contact information describes a third party, so add it only if you are comfortable storing it with us. It is deleted with the rest of your data.
Regular and emergency vet records. In the Wellbeing section you can save your cat's regular vet and, separately, an emergency or 24-hour vet. If you do, we store the clinic or hospital name, the veterinarian's name, a phone number, an address, and any notes you add. This is information about a third party; add it only if you are comfortable storing it with us. It is deleted with the rest of your data.
Lost Cat Protocol and Pet ID. If you use the lost-cat tools, we store the dossier you build: when and where your cat went missing, a description, temperament, identifying marks, whether a reward is offered, tracker notes, your progress through the recovery checklist, and a contact phone number you enter for the poster. You can also add one poster photo, which is stored with your account like your other photos. This is the one place the app asks for your own phone number; you choose whether to provide it, and it is deleted with your account. The tools deliberately separate marks you publish on a poster from a private identifying mark that is never printed.
Subscription status. We store whether your subscription is active, in a trial, or expired, so we can unlock paid features. We do not collect or store your credit card number or other payment card details. Payments are processed by Apple or Google, as described below.
Camera and photos. The app uses your device's camera and photo library for four kinds of features. AI scan tools (the plant, stool, medication label, food label, and vet visit summary scanners) let you take or choose a photo so the app can send it to Google's Gemini API for analysis; see "How AI features work" below for what happens to that photo. Separately, you can take or choose a photo to set your cat's profile picture, you can save photos to a Health Photos log in the Wellbeing section, and you can add a single poster photo in the Lost Cat Protocol tools. Your cat's profile picture, the photos in your Health Photos log, and the Lost Cat Protocol poster photo are resized on your device and, while you are signed in, are stored with the rest of your account data in our database, so they are available on your other devices; they are removed when you delete them in the app or delete your account. We request photo library access because your device's photo picker needs that permission to let you choose an existing photo instead of only taking a new one; the app does not browse your photo library beyond the photo you select.
What we do not collect. We do not collect location data from your device: the app does not use GPS, background location, or approximate location. Anything to do with a place, such as where your cat went missing or a vet's address, is text you type in yourself. We do not read your device's contact list.
How AI features work
Some features use artificial intelligence to help explain your cat's behavior, body language, and vocalizations, and to offer general guidance. Other features, our plant, stool, medication label, food label, and vet visit summary scanners, analyze a photo you take or choose. When you use an AI feature, the text and, for the scan tools, the photo you submit are sent to Google's Gemini API for processing, and the response is returned to the app. Our own servers pass the photo straight through to Google and do not keep a separate copy of it; see "Camera and photos" above for where scan photos live on your device, and "How long we keep your data" below for retention.
If you photograph a veterinary visit summary, medication label, insurance document, or similar paper, that photo can contain personal information beyond your cat's data, such as your name, address, phone number, or your veterinary clinic's name and contact details, if that information is printed on it. Any such information visible in the photo is sent to Google's Gemini API along with the rest of the image, under the handling described below. If you would rather not share that information, crop, cover, or trim it out of the photo before you scan.
We use Google's paid Gemini API tier. Under Google's API terms for that tier, Google does not use the prompts you submit, including any photo, or the responses generated, to train or improve its models, and it retains that content only briefly for safety and legal-compliance purposes. We send only the text, and for the scan tools the single photo, needed for the feature you requested. Do not enter or photograph information you would not want processed by a third-party service. AI output can be wrong; treat it as general information, not professional advice.
How your data is stored and secured
Your account and app data are stored in a managed PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase, with data located in the United States. We rely on Row Level Security, which isolates your records so that your data is accessible only to your authenticated account. Data is encrypted in transit using industry-standard transport encryption (TLS). We use the security controls provided by our hosting and authentication infrastructure to protect against unauthorized access.
No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. We work to protect your information, but we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your password confidential and notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
Third parties we share data with (service providers)
We share limited data with the service providers that make the app work. These providers process data on our behalf, for the purposes described, and are not permitted to use it for their own unrelated purposes.
- Supabase provides our database hosting and authentication. It stores your account credentials and the data you enter. Data is hosted in the United States.
- Google (Gemini API) processes the text, and for the scan tools the photo, you submit when you use AI features, as described above.
- Apple and Google process your subscription payments through Apple In-App Purchase and Google Play Billing. They handle your payment details directly; we receive only your subscription status, not your payment card information.
- RevenueCat helps us manage and verify subscription status across platforms. It receives subscription and purchase identifiers needed to confirm your entitlement; it does not receive your payment card details.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to respond to lawful requests, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or in connection with a business transfer. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How long we keep your data
We keep your account and the data you enter for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your associated data as described below. We may retain limited records where we are legally required to do so (for example, transaction records needed for tax or accounting), and our service providers may keep brief technical or safety logs as part of their normal operations.
Scan photos and AI results. When you use an AI scan tool, the photo you submit is sent to Google's Gemini API and is not stored on our own servers; our AI function passes the photo through to Google and does not write it to any database. The photo stays on your device only for that scan, as an on-screen preview, and is not saved automatically. If a scan extracts information you choose to keep, for example by saving the pre-filled vet visit form after using the vet visit summary scanner, only the text you save is stored and synced to your account, never the source photo. Your cat's profile picture, any photos you add to the Health Photos log, and a Lost Cat Protocol poster photo are different: they are saved with your account data and kept until you delete them in the app or delete your account, at which point they are removed along with the rest of your data. Google's handling of a submitted image is governed by its API terms for the paid tier, described above.
Account and data deletion
You can delete your account and all associated data from within the app: go to Settings, then Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Once deleted, your cat profiles, care records, progress, and account information are removed from our active systems.
If you cannot access the app, you do not need to reinstall it. Full instructions are published publicly at mycatcompanion-legal.pages.dev/delete-account, which you can use without installing or opening the app. You can also request deletion by emailing zac.r22@gmail.com from the email address tied to your account, with the subject line DELETE MY ACCOUNT. We verify that the request comes from the account address and complete the deletion within 30 days, usually within a few days, and email you when it is done. Deleting the app from your device alone does not delete your account or cloud data; use the in-app option, the deletion page, or an email request. Canceling a subscription is handled through Apple or Google and is separate from deleting your account.
Your privacy rights
California (CCPA/CPRA). If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it, the right to access a copy of your personal information, the right to correct inaccurate information, the right to delete your personal information, and the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising these rights. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is no need for a "Do Not Sell or Share" opt-out, but you may still contact us with any request. To exercise these rights, use the in-app deletion option or email zac.r22@gmail.com.
EU, EEA, and UK (GDPR/UK GDPR). If you are in these regions, you have the right to access your personal data, to correct it, to request its deletion, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to data portability. Our legal bases for processing are: performance of our contract with you (to provide the app and your account), your consent (for optional features), and our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the service), and compliance with legal obligations where applicable. To exercise these rights, use the in-app deletion option or email zac.r22@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
We aim to respond to verifiable rights requests within the timeframes required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity, typically by confirming control of the account email, before acting on a request.
Children's privacy
My Cat Companion is intended for adults who own or care for cats. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The minimum age to create an account is 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact zac.r22@gmail.com and we will delete it.
International users
We are based in the United States and our data is stored in the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States, which may have data-protection laws different from those in your country.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app. Your continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
